Martin Clarke, the proprietor, has many years experience 

of repairing, making and playing guitars. He set up MGR in 

1998 after a career in the City and his life has revolved 

around ‘fings wiv strings’ ever since.

Martin is a bass guitarist first and foremost and is currently 

playing in a Genesis tribute band called Los Endos (check 

out the custom twin neck 11 string guitar!) and also plays 

jazz fusion with ToKaMaK (currently looking for a drummer....)

He tries to balance his time between repairing guitars and his true love, 

making them. A wise man said that to make a guitar ‘Take wood; rub 

until guitar appears’ - lutherie generates a lot of dust.. we don’t take in 

repairs when we’re in making mode! Mind you, it is also said that to 

make a small fortune in lutherie, start with a large one! Must be the 

same wise man...
